Warrington and Widnes - what unemployment?
Agency struggling to find accountancy staff
The strength of the Warrington and Widnes employment market was given a boost today with the announcement that leading accountancy recruiter RK Accountancy is finding it difficult to identify finance workers.
"We have immediate openings for all sectors of finance staff" explains Operations Manager Jo Arnold "we are in particular need of accounts assistants, purchase ledger clerks, credit controllers and payroll people"
The close proximity of Manchester means that many people perceive there to be higher wages in the city and therefore the two towns' loose out in the fight for finance professionals. However this thought process is being challenged. "not only is the variance at times negligible, with the added costs of travelling there really is very little financial gain from travelling out to other towns" explains Arnold "furthermore we are now seeing people travel into Warrington and Widnes from the surrounding areas because they can see the opportunities here."
With opportunities up 25% on this time last year, things are really looking positive for the region.
This is welcomed news as a barometer for the economy- employment and northern towns were two key areas hardest hit in the recession and comes off the back of recently released economic figures that were weak.
