Area: Careers within Accountancy - Quick overview

Keyword: careers in accountancy

Careers in the financial field are highly sought after by executives, experienced professionals and graduates right now. But firms are intently holding on to talent leaving some corporations understaffed. The battle to find top quality candidates who have an accomplished skill set, and who have transferable skills covering a number of specialist area's, goes on.

The 'Big 4' market leading accountancy firms offer top notch financial consultancy, business recovery, actuarial, strategic planning (with additional services) for corporate institutions throughout the EU. This means there are extensive numbers of disciplines across the accountancy industry and demands for experienced professionals, who are able to integrate existing skills into current processes, are on the rise.

Dynamic corporations are quick to adapt to innovative technology and to the growing demands from clients, to bring them endowed distinction with accounting and financial techniques. Although auditing and tax analysis are core processes of the industry, accountancy is in no way limited to those two applications. The accountancy sector is governed by strategic overall processes that manage and lead organisations, entrepreneurs and individuals in an enterprising way, helping them grow.

So what about those looking for careers in the accountancy sector?

The industry has a huge varying range of disciplines, with most firms being positively aware of their workplace responsibilities. Looking to support their own employees in development, to assist with succeeding in their current role and retraining for alternative roles, firms large and small are conducting employee support and management programmes to progressively train workers and help them adapt, develop and progress.

The present economy's high inflation is being blamed for one in five graduates being out of work (at time of writing) and firms are just as exacting when making candidate selections, as they have been for many years - still aiming to attract the most talented candidates above the competition. It's a demanding world for both those candidates that have no experience but have the qualifications necessary - the AAT then the ICAEW, CIMA and ACCA certifications.

This aside, as the market slowly rises and economic growth recovers there is growing demand for versatile graduates, professionals or post-graduates who can integrate existing skills into accountancy firms' current processes.

So for top candidates with the right transferable skill set, an energetic approach and inspirational talent, the door to careers in accountancy is wide open - for those that act promptly.
